As the newspapers and television constantly remind us, violent crime is on the increase and society’s predators can strike anywhere and at any time of the day or night. However my R.E.A.C.T book explains how you can protect yourself, regardless of your age, sex, strength or level of physical fitness by following the simple but effective R.E.A.C.T formula.
- Recognise
- Evaluate
- Alternatives
- Concentrate
- Terminate
Embracing the 5 basic R.E.A.C.T principles enables you to stay in tune with your environment, be alert, aware of your surroundings and switched on to any escalation in your personal threat level. Following R.E.A.C.T in its logical sequence equips you to Recognise potential threats, Evaluate its seriousness, consider your Alternatives, and Concentrate your physical and mental actions to Terminate the situation to your advantage. R.E.A.C.T shows you how to recognise the signs of danger and empowers you to deal with them.
R.E.A.C.T is not a martial art, nor is it a method of fighting. Rather, it is a purely defensive strategy that teaches you how to avoid conflict and confrontation wherever possible. But if all your preventive efforts fail and you do face an actual physical attack, R.E.A.C.T also shows you some simple-to-execute never the less highly effective techniques and tactics that will give you a physical edge.
R.E.A.C.T Training
Training in the R.E.A.C.T. system of Confrontation Management and Personal Protection has now been delivered around the world to both the private and public sectors. The R.E.A.C.T training courses are mapped to UK National Occupational Standards and are certified by Skills for Security, the standards setting body for the UK’s Security Industry representing England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The aim of the R.E.A.C.T course is to train the student in The R.E.A.C.T System and has been designed for anyone who may come into contact with confrontational situations. The training will instill discipline, confidence, ability and a commitment to respond in an appropriate manner at the appropriate time. The R.E.A.C.T system is a purely defensive strategy that teaches how to avoid conflict and confrontation wherever possible. However, if all preventative efforts fail the training will equip students with appropriate low-risk countermeasures to combat the threat of violence and/or an actual physical attack, thus improving their safety and that of those in their care. All students will be shown various simple to execute but highly effective techniques and tactics to increase their chances of avoiding injury by an assailant.

Why I have written this book .
First and foremost let me explain that this is NOT! a “HOW TO DO IT BOOK”. You will find no knife fighting techniques within its pages. Nor will you read about yet another realistic and devastatingly effective knife defense system, handed down to me by some ancient master who dwells on the miasma covered mountain tops of the far and mystical east.
No, I wrote this book because just like you I am and have been a victim of knife crime.
“I’ve never been a victim of knife crime I hear you say”. Well I would beg to differ.
Knife attacks are such an unpleasant subject that most of us don’t even want to think about it. However the fact is we are given no choice but to think about it. Knife crime affects each and every one of us. We are all touched by it. Even if you’ve never been attacked, even if you don’t know someone who’s been attacked, and even if there’s never been a knife attack in your town, you are still indirectly a victim of knife crime. Every week if not every day we are bombarded with media coverage of yet another stabbing, another bloody murder; another innocent citizen robbed or raped at knife point, another kid having the life snatched out of them on the way home from school. Retailers have to install extra security measures in order to meet the requirements of their insurers, resulting in the knock on effect of higher prices for goods. The list goes on and on. So like it or not, you, me and everyone else is a victim of weapons related crime and as specially knives. Every time you go through a security check point you become a victim, every time you stand in line at the airport waiting to be searched you become a victim. In fact every time the subject is forced into your live you are being victimised by it. The mere fact that I thought there was a need to write a book on the subject is confirmation of knife crime victimization.
My work takes me all over the world and by its very nature I am exposed to the causes and aftermath of horrendous weapon related violence and terrorism.
The horrifying reality is something we cannot afford to ignore. Apathy and denial steals people’s lives. Therefore I make no apologies for some of the language in these pages and no apologies for of the graphic images I have used. Knife attacks are as real and as deadly as cancer and sadly reaching epidemic proportions.
Both my parents passed away with cancer and over the years several dear friends have gone the same way. I possessed no knowledge that could have helped them, but I do have knowledge and an understanding of knives and knife attacks, and that’s why I have written this book.

A R.E.A.C.T Survival Files Book
This new book and training programme, created by Steve Collins is in response to the increasing concerns regarding the safety of personnel if faced with an armed robbery.
The book contains 10 guidelines or ‘RULES’ that have been developed to assist owners and managers to provide a safer workplace.
PRINCIPAL SECTORS AT RISK OF ARMED ATTACK
- Banks
- Money exchanges
- Jewellery stores
- Supermarkets
- Petrol stations
- Convenience stores
- Any high-value outlets
IMPACT FACTORS
- Financial loss
- Staff trauma, possibly staff absence or even death
- Staff fears for the future
- Injury or death of customers on the premises
- Public fear
- Adverse media publicity
It is essential that personnel learn the 10 RULES for dealing with an armed robbery, as this will enhance safety when faced with this type of life endangering crime.
The 10 RULES are easy to understand and no previous experience in security training is required.
The 10 RULES take personnel step by step through a logical process. Red Rules teach the recommended responses and reactions whilst an armed robbery is in progress. Green Rules teach the recommended procedures after an armed robbery has taken place. It is imperative that safety measures are taken by employers to deter armed robbery. A harmonized approach to the threat of armed robbery will establish not only the effectiveness of any pre-emptive strategies, but also the level of trauma and speed of recovery of those personnel who were victims of an incident.
Training Course for the Rules for Dealing with an Armed Robbery
The training course teaches personnel, in high-risk environments, 10 basic rules:
First 5 Rules are RED Rules…
These are to be followed whilst the attack is in progress. Red rules teach the student how to react appropriately whilst an armed robbery is in progress. This module covers items such as mental attitude, controlling fear, appropriate physical actions, offender recognition and information gathering techniques, weapons recognition and how to control responses and reactions to the situation in order to preserve life.
Second 5 Rules are GREEN Rules…
These are to be followed once the immediate and active phase of the attack is over. Green rules show the student what they should do after an armed robbery has taken place. This module covers items such as the correct procedures for summoning help, attending to any injured, gathering and preserving evidence and dealing with the aftermath. The training also looks at risk management plans and awareness of safety procedures.
There are 3 deliverables with this course:
- A three hour training module
- A copy of the book support the training
- A CD to provide training support and post-course revision
If you find yourself trapped in the mayhem of an armed robbery the thought process has to be
- EXCEPT IT!
- DEAL WITH IT!
- SURVIVE IT!

The Manual of Prohibited and Concealable Weapons
Total Control at Your Fingertips
(The Story of the REACT-OR)
After years of painstaking study and research into the history and use of small close quarter handheld combat tested weapons, I have conceived and designed the REACT-OR.
Thousands of hours of study and training have culminated in the creation of a device solely designed as a less-lethal, close quarter compliance tool.
The REACT-OR was specifically created to bridge the gap that presently exists between the lethal and less-lethal technology currently available to law enforcement agencies. The rationale behind its development and application is to reduce lethality and injury during physical confrontations.
This 32page full colour booklet tells the story of the REACT-OR, its design, its history and the significance of its training program.
